Η δημόσια τηλεόραση της Ισλανδίας, RUV, διοργάνωσε για ακόμη μια χρονιά τον εθνικό τελικό της χώρας, Söngvakeppnin, προηγήθηκαν δυο ημιτελικοί πριν τη διοργάνωση του τελικού όπου πέντε τραγούδια διαγωνίσθηκαν και το τηλεοπτικό κοινό μαζί με μια διεθνή κριτική επιτροπή επέλεξαν τα δυο καλύτερα όπου διαγωνίσθηκαν ξανά και το τηλεοπτικό κοινό επέλεξε ποιο τραγούδι θα ταξίδευε στο Ρότερνταμ.
